OfficeView Pro
LAN-based OfficeView Pro is an in/out board that displays standard or personalized remarks, such as: in, in but unavailable, on vacation until..., etc. In addition to knowing where your co-workers are, your receptionist can give well-informed responses to phone calls and alert you to the arrival of clients. The program also includes a messaging system and a screen that displays employee information such as telephone, fax, pager numbers, and a notepad to display lengthy, more detailed information. The alphabetical search feature helps you find a name instantly. OfficeView Pro can accommodate up to 1000 names. There's more! Check out our Web site (http://www.officeview.com) for the full story. A complementary product called Web OfficeView is also available to produce web pages similar to OfficeView Pro. Thus, any web browser can work cooperatively with OfficeView Pro enabling those who work from home and those on Macs and Unix, for example, to communicate their whereabouts too. Installation
After you download the OfficeView Pro installation program (OVP.exe), copy the file into the directory where you want to install the program. Normally, you would choose to install it in a network directory on a server. Give all OfficeView Pro users full privileges (execute, read, write, delete and create) on the shared directory.
To install the program, select Run from the Start menu on the task bar. Enter the path and installation program name of the downloaded file, for example, \\server1\oviewpro\ovp.exe. Press <Enter> and follow the on-screen instructions. This will install all of the OfficeView Pro files into the subdirectory of your choice and create a program group/shortcut. The installation takes only a few seconds.
To enter names into the program, log on as "Admin" using the password "abc". If the logon screen does not appear when you start the program, select " Log Out" on the "Actions" menu to bring the logon screen into view. To populate the board with user names, click on "Actions" and "Add Name" or type Ctrl+N and type the name. The screen that prompts you to add each user name will also enable you to set the options to be given to each user. Employees can change the options highlighted in green. A right click on the option text will remove the green background. Click on the Add button to display the Employee Information screen. If you like, you can leave this screen for employees to complete themselves. Finally, click on Close to add the name to the database. After you have entered all the names, it is prudent to make a backup copy of the OfficeView Pro shared directory. The names are saved in database file ov3.dbf.
To give workstations access to OfficeView Pro, open the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop and browse to the OfficeView Pro server directory. Find the workstation installation program (setupWS.exe) and run it with a double mouse click. The program adds an OfficeView Pro folder to the Programs menu on the Desktop Start button and allows you to have OfficeView Pro start up each time Windows starts. Be sure users have write permission to the file called ov3local.ini in the Windows directory.
OfficeView Pro assigns a blank password to employees allowing them to log on without entering a password. Normally, users will then choose a password of their choice.
Admin mode is useful only for administrative purposes and should not be used for every day use because many of the normal functions are disabled. Upon registration, you will be provided with a back door password, in case you forget your Admin password. Unregistered versions will always accept the "abc" Admin password.
