Artemis Lite 1.0 Readme File
Copywrite 2006, James D. Brausch

This readme can be used to quickly install and use Artemis
Lite to submit articles to thousands of publishers.
However, for most efficiency, I recommend that you watch
the videos. There are Camtasia videos that walk you
through installation and use of the software much faster
and easier than any readme.txt file ever could.

To access the installation and training videos, go to:

http://www.ArtemisLite.com

Scroll down the bottom of the page and enter your name and
email address in the space provided. Now check your email
and follow the directions. You will be provided a URL
where you can watch 5 different videos that cover:

1. Installation
2. Preparing your resource boxes for submission
3. Preparing your article for submission
4. Preparing any rewrites of your article
5. Actually submitting

If you prefer text, here goes:

1. Installation

Installation is very easy. There are only three files in
this zip file. The readme.txt is what you are reading.
The other two files should be placed in a directory of
your choosing. I recommend C:\Artemis for that folder.

Then create a shortcut on your desktop to the
ArtemisLite.exe file and run it. The first time you
will be warned that the file isn't signed. There is a
checkbox on that warning that you should uncheck so you
don't receive that warning every time you run Artemis Lite.

You will probably also receive a warning that the data
files need to be updated. Once Artemis Lite is running,
just click on the Update button to get those files.
You will notice these three files are downloaded:

si.hef - Part of the database of publishers for submission.

mi.hef - Another part of that database.

common.txt - A list of common words that helps Artemis
to figure out what your article is about so it can
properly match it to publisher requirements.

That's it. There is no need to install Artemis Lite via
a setup utility or anything like that. When you want to
uninstall Artemis Lite, you can just delete the files.
There are no registry entries or anything else like that
to worry about. Artemis Lite is completely portable.
You can install it on a keychain USB drive if you
desire.

See the above video if you want to watch an installation
or you have any problems with the install.

2. Preparing Your Resource Boxes For Submission

You will want to create a file called topic-resource.txt
(where you replace the word topic with the one word topic
of your article. This file will contain a series of
resource boxes. A resource box is a few lines (typically
3-6 lines) that go at the end of an article.

A resource box generally says a few words about the author
of the article and tells where the reader can get more
information about the topic of the article. This is very
important! Your resource box is the reason people will
visit your site. Make it compelling. Include your URL.

The format of the resource.txt file is very simple. It
is plain text (uses Notepad to create it) and each line
must be 60 characters or less. Your resource box should
be no more than 6 lines long. Then you skip a blank line
and start another version of the resource box.

You don't need multiple versions of your resource box, but
it is highly recommended. The different text surrounding
your link is looked upon highly favorably by the search
engines. So make a very version of your resource box.

One problem that some folks run into (both for their
resource box and for the articles themselves) is that they
create them in their favorite word processor and then
copy/paste them into notepad. This works, but there are
certain characters that will not be legal ASCII characters
if you use this technique. The publishers in the database
require correct ASCII characters so you will have to
manually change the following characters:

' - A single quote.
" - A double quote.
... - Three dots in a row.

In all three cases, just find them in Notepad and type over
them. You will notice that they look a little different
when you type over them. That's good. That means they
have been changed to the legal version of those characters
instead of the version that many word processors use.

There is a video that shows how to create this file if
you run into any problems. Follow the instructions
above to get access to the videos.

3. Preparing Your Original Article

Your article is also a simple text file. I recommend that
you name it topic-1a.txt. Change the word topic to the
one word topic of your article. If this is the 2nd article
you are submitting on the same topic, use topic-2a.txt for
the filename.

The format is similar to the resource box file. Here are
the rules:

1. Your title goes on the 1st line of the file.

2. The 2nd line must be blank.

3. Each line must be no longer than 60 characters.

4. There must be exactly one blank line between each
paragraph.

5. There should be no blank lines at the end of the
article file.

The same rules apply to the special characters that can't
be used in the resource box. If you get an "illegal
character" error when you try to submit, this is probably
the cause.

That's it. Pretty simple; huh?

There is a video for this step too. Check out the above
instructions to get access to the training videos.

4. Prepare Rewritten Articles

This is an optional step. It is meant to eliminate the
duplicate content penalty. The three major search engines
all try to discount links from duplicate content.

If you choose, you can rewrite each paragraph of your
article. Then during the submission process, Artemis
Lite will choose randomly among your three versions
of your article each paragraph. That means that
every submission will likely be unique. I highly
recommend that you take the time to do this.

However, it is optional. You can just copy your
topic-1a.txt file to topic-1b.txt and topic-1c.txt.

There is also a video for this step. Follow the
above instructions to get access to all of the
training videos.

5. Submitting Your Article

Artemis Lite will automatically figure out the topic of
your article (just like search engines do it). It will
automatically compare the topic of your article to it's
database of publishers and only submit to those publishers
who want to receive articles on your topic... so you don't
have to worry about that part at all.

The form is really extremely simple. I'll walk you through
each box on the form:

Author Name - That's your name... or your pen name. Enter
it in mixed case. Enter John Smith, not john smith or
JOHN SMITH.

Author Email - That's your email address. You can expect
a couple of acknowledgements of your submission, but
generally speaking you can feel free to use your main
email address. You won't get spammed to death by the
publishers. You can also use a free throw away email
address @yahoo.com or @hotmail.com

Article Version A - This is the name of the file that
contains version A of your article. Don't enter a path.
Artemis Lite knows to look in the folder where it is
installed. Just enter topic-1a.txt (whatever your topic
was. If you receive a "File Not Found" error, double
check that your files are stored in the same folder
as Artemis Lite and that they are really named exactly
what you entered. Sometimes the .txt is obscured by
the operating system, so check for that. Because it
is obscured, sometimes people end up calling their
file topic-1a.txt.txt instead of topic-1a.txt. Check
for that too.

Article Version B - This is version B of your article.
It was probably automatically filled in for you when
you entered the name of Article Version A. It should
say something like topic-1b.txt.

Article Version C - This is version C of your article.
It was probably automatically filled in for you when
you entered the name of Article Version A. It should
be something like topic-1c.txt.

Resource - This is the name of your resource box file.
It was probably also filled in. If you followed my
recommendations for naming your files, it will even
be correct. If not, rename it. It should be something
like topic-resource.txt

Site URL - This is the URL of the site you are
promoting with this article. Some publishers ignore
your resource box, but will give you a link if you
fill in this box. Be sure to fill it in. It should
look something like the following:

http://www.WidgetsGalore.com

That's it. Then you click the Submit button. If you
get errors, correct them and click the SUbmit button
again. Otherwise, it will start submitting your article
to each publisher who wants articles of that topic.

Have fun!
