VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method) is a specialized form
of disk file storage on IBM® mainframes that run z/OS® and
VSE. Users can create and manage their own files through this access
method; many existing applications that predate modern database management
systems use VSAM to store data.
EGL does not provide a dedicated record stereotype for working
with VSAM files; there is no VSAM equivalent to the SQLRecord stereotype.
Instead, use the same three stereotypes for VSAM access that you use
for other file I/O. Those stereotypes relate to VSAM file types in
the following way:
- IndexedRecord
- Accesses a VSAM Key Sequenced Data Set (KSDS).
- RelativeRecord
- Accesses a VSAM Relative Record Data Set (RRDS).
- SerialRecord
- Accesses a VSAM Entry Sequence Data Set (ESDS).
