eNewsViews User Manual

Brief Overview
There are four different user rights levels. Listed below are the different levels and what each user level has rights to. Banned
Not allowed to log in or modify account.

User
Add views.
Change password.

News Admin
Change Password.
User Admin - Ban, edit, delete any user (including email address) with news admin rights or below.
Add-edit-delete news.
Moderate Views Queue - Add, edit, delete or moderate views.
Admin Posted Views - Add, edit or delete posted views.
Abuse Reports - View or delete abuse reports.
Database Reports - View database reports.
Hacker Tracker - View Hacker Tracker reports.
Programmable Word Filter - Add, edit or delete word filters.

Site Admin
Change Password.
User Admin - Ban, edit, delete any user (including email address).
Add-edit-delete news.
Moderate Views Queue - Add, edit, delete or moderate views.
Admin Posted Views - Add, edit or delete posted views.
Abuse Reports - View or delete abuse reports.
Database Reports - View database reports.
Hacker Tracker - View and delete Hacker Tracker reports.
Programmable Word Filter - Add, edit or delete word filters.
Programmable Hack Filter - Add, edit or delete hack filters.
Skin Painter - Change any setting.
Setup Host - Change any setting.

Depending on your user level, you will get one of three settings menus which can be accessed after you log in and click on the settings icon. Below are the three different menus and what rights each user level has available.

 

User Settings Menu

  • Change Password
    • Note - If any user changes the password on the account logged in on, the user will automatically be logged out so that they can log in with the new password.

  • User Admin - News Admin and Site Admin will first see a list of users to select from. After the user is selected, a set of radio buttons are used to change the user level or delete the user. The email address can also be edited. Click on column headers to change or reverse the sort.

    • News
  • News Admin - Select the headline you wish to edit, expire, delete, re-post or move to the top. There is a link at the top to add a new headline and different ways to sort and search the headlines. Click on column headers to change or reverse the sort.
  • News Sources - This is a handy list of web sites that tend to report real news. Feel free to edit the /enewsviews/docs/doc_sources.html file to suit your needs.

    • Views
  • Views Moderate Queue ( 0 ) - If the moderate feature is selected in Setup Host, the views will be held in the moderate queue until released by a news or site admin. The views can be edited, deleted or posted. The number at the end of the menu item tells you how many views are in the queue.
  • Admin Posted Views - First Select the headline that contains the view you want and then select the view. You can edit or delete the view.

    • Reports
  • Abuse Reports - A list of reports displayed in a Defendant -vs- Plaintiff format will appear with all the relevant information.
  • Database Report - This report will display all the relevant information regarding the database, including number of active/inactive headlines, views and users.

    • Security
  • Hacker Tracker ( 0 ) - Both news admin and site admin can view the Hacker Trapper report. Only a site and can delete report entries.
  • Programmable Word Filter - Any word or characters can be filtered and be replaced by something you choose. The filter is case sensitive to ensure maximum flexibility. You can also set each individual filter to automatically ban a user if the user attempts to post it. If the autoban is selected, the user is automatically logged out, the post is cancelled, an email will be sent to the administrator, an entry is placed in the hacker tracker and the reason the user is displayed in the edit user message if a message was set in the filter. News and site admin are exempt from bad word autoban, however the word will still be filtered.

  • Programmable Hack Filter - Works exactly like the Word filter except with the autoban. Only a Site Admin is exempt from the autoban feature. The database is preloaded with some common hacks but you will like the ability to easily add more filtered as needed.

    • Setup
  • Skin Painter - You can configure every font, every font color, every background color, three separate hyperlink groups, etc. Every relevant element of the script can be custom configured to make eNewsViews blend into you web page perfectly. You can even use the CSS style sheet that eNewsViews creates to drive your entire web site giving to a single menu based control to configure you web site.
  • Setup Host - This is where you configure the SMTP email settings, turn on/off email alerts, turn on/off filters, turn on/off views-moderate, and enter the registration key.
