What is a 'View'?

A View simply saves the parameters of a 'Search'.  A search can be carried out based on any available criteria.

When would I create a View?

This is best described by an example.  If you want to view all of the documents pertaining to a particular customer, for example, you can carry out a Search of mycustomerx*.doc (assuming you have structured your documents in this format).  You could then save this as a 'View', allowing access to this View only to any users who would need to manage this particular customer's documents.

Who can create a View?

There are two types of Views, one is a 'System View' and the other is a 'User View'.

A System View can only be created by a member of the admin group.  Other users can be given permissions to a system view by a member of the admin group.

A User View is one that any user can create if they have permissions to do so in their user settings.  A user view is only accessible by the user who created it.
