Main Menu


File

  Sub items:

  • Clear (Ctrl + N);
  • Open Assembly
  • Close Window (Ctrl + D);
  • Exit (Alt + F4).

"Clear" menu. Closes all child windows.

"Open Assembly" menu. Sub items:

  • Open from GAC... (Ctrl + G);
  • Open from file... (Ctrl + O);
  • Open from process...

"Open from GAC..." menu. Open assembly to explore from Global Assembly Cache. Click this menu and select assembly from window, then click "OK".

"Open from file..." menu. Explore assembly from local file. In the open file dialog select the DLL or EXE (CLR compatible) file.

"Open from process..." menu. Explore assembly from active processes list.

"Close Window" menu. Close active child window.

"Exit" menu. Exit Metadata Explorer application.

View

Sub items:

  • Next window (Ctrl + Left);
  • Previous window (Ctrl + Right);
  • Expand tree (Ctrl + E);
  • Collapse tree (Ctrl + C);
  • Expand all (Ctrl + Alt + E);
  • Collapse all (Ctrl + Alt + C);
  • Font

"Next Window" menu. Select next child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Previous Window" menu. Select previous child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Expand tree" menu. Expand selected node in the TreeView control in child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Collapse tree" menu. Collapse selected node in the TreeView control in child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Expand all" menu. Expand all nodes in the TreeView control in child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Collapse all" menu. Collapse all nodes in the TreeView control in child window. This menu is inactive, if there are no child windows.

"Font" menu. Set font properties for child windows.

Windows

This menu contains list of child windows. By means of this menu, user can navigate to specified window by it caption.

External Tools

This menu contains connected to Metadata Explorer external tools. To launch external tool, click specified sub item.

Explorer

 Sub items:

  • Assembly;
  • Sorting;
  • Plug-ins;
  • JIT view mode.

"Assembly" menu. To adjust displayed tab pages in a assembly processing results window. For example, explore assembly without "PE Headers" and "Program Debug Database":

"Sorting" menu. To adjust sorting for various categories of the metadata. You can set this properties locally at child window.

"Plug-ins" menu. Access to Installed plug-ins and it management.

"JIT view mode" menu. Set Just-In-Time view mode.  Enabled mode - high performance of assembly processing. Metadata are processed when needed. Disabled mode - process assembly metadata completely. Do not use this mode, if assembly size more that 200 Kb. Automatically - automatic enable JIT view mode. Use "settings" menu to adjust assembly size (if size of assembly more or equal than this value, JIT mode enabled automatically).

Help

Contents of some help items  are displayed in the Internet browser. Be sure, that Internet Explorer is installed.

  • Other help resources;
  • Memory usage;
  • Bug report;
  • About.

"Metadata Explorer Help" menu. Display this document.

"Other help resources" menu. Open external help resource, connected to Metadata Explorer.

"Memory usage" menu. Memory usage statistics. There are size of working set and size of managed memory.

"Bug report" menu. You must have online connection, because Internet Explorer redirects to www.codeplex.com/mde.

"About" menu. About Metadata Explorer.

Tool Bar


Toolbar of Metadata Explorer - fast way to access to basic functions.
