About MODO

Modo is a scientific tool providing the below main features:

Modtran®5 software included in this product is licensed from the United States of America, as represented by the United States Air Force, under U.S. Patent Nos. 5,884,226, 7,433,806 and 7,593,835.

Installation

All ReSe software requires IDL or the IDL Virtual Machine to run on any operating system. IDL VM is available as free distribution directly from Exelis VIS. A minimal IDL VM is delivered on the DVD distribution of MODO. The MODO installation process is as follows:

1. Install MODO from CD/DVD or by downloading through http://www.exelisvis.com - please register and follow the installation instructions provided by Exelis VIS.
   (this step is void, if you got IDL, IDL VM, or ENVI developer installed). Select the option 'No IDL license' when installing the IDL VM software.
2. Unpack the zip-file of the MODO installation if the software had been downloaded from the ReSe Web-page and copy the installer directory to a new location (Attention: installing from the archive directly will fail).
3. Make sure that you got administrator rights on the machine of installation. On Windows systems, the IDL virtual machine should be set to be executed as an administrator for a smooth installation process.
   Attention on Windows: don't install the software in the windows 'Program Files' directory or any other directory protected by the operating system. The MODTRAN software execution requires write access to the installation location of modo (on Unix-systems, a local link to the installation in the user directory is used for execution).
4. double click the modo_installer Program (on Windows/Mac) or enter on Unix/Linux/MacOSX:
   idl -vm="modo_installer.sav"
   Please follow the instructions as displayed during the installation process.
   
5. Select 'Demonstration Mode' for the first installation.
6. For licensing, go to the Help-Menu after starting MODO and choose 'License>Identify'. Please email the displayed outputs of this job together with your complete address and affiliation. You then will receive a license key file within a few days. This code is to be entered in the same dialog in 'Help>License'.

Starting the Program

1. type 'idl' and type 'modo' (if you have a full IDL installation, and the file modo.sav is found)
   
   ---- or on IDL Virtual Machine: ----
   
   Windows/MacOSX: double click the file modo.sav (situated in the /bin directory of your installation) - if asked, select 'idl' as the application to use for opening
   
   Unix/Linux/MacOSX: enter:
   idl -vm="modo.sav" (optionally include full path to the binary modo.sav)
   
   
2. enter the license key or start the program in limited demonstration mode.
