Important Notice

It is absolutely necessary to connect to your server using the programm 'putty' first - you will have to confirm the key ("finger print") of the host (server) you are trying to connect to. After the first contact, the key is cached in the registry and you may connect to the server with this widget.

You may find the programm 'putty' for download here: http://www.putty.nl/download.html

General Preferences

You will have to fill in the server's address (IP or resolvable hostname) and user name. If you are using password authentication, then a password is mandatory. If you are using private key authentication, the path to your key file (putty format only!) has to be choosen. If your key file is protected by a password, fill in the password form above. [The password form may be used as password for authentication to the server - or as password for accessing the key.]

Optionally you may choose the remote directory for uploading files and the local path for downloades files to be stored there. You can choose to "see" hidden files and to encode file names to avoid problems with special characters (e.g. '','','','',' ' and some more).

Alertion may be set to 'Always', 'Never' or 'On error'. The last option will probably be most suited for productive environments.

Display Preferences

You may choose the color and size of the drive icon as preferred. The number of files determine the heigt of the display, the font size does not influence the vertical size of the display.

You may choose an interval for updating the display every few minutes automaticallly. Scrolling file info is usefull for reading any file information - since the information length may exceed the display width, the information is scrolled from right to left it the option is chosen.

How to use

You may upload one or more files (not directories!) by simply dropping them onto the drive icon. A green arrow indicates the running upload process. The files are uploaded to the choosen directory or to the default directory the server provides after login - usually the user's home directory. If you only want to use the widget for uploading files, that's it.

If you want to examine a remote directory's content, right-click onto the widget and choose 'List Remote Directory Content' from the context menu. After a few seconds, the choosen remote directory's content should be displayed within a separate display.

By positioning the mouse over a file name, further file's information is displayed, e.g. user permissions, size and date/time of last modification. If the displayed item is actually a directory (instead of a simple file), you can display it's content simply by clicking on the item. The currend directory is changed to that sub-directory and it's content is displayed.

PLEASE NOTE: Dropped files are always uploaded to the directory set on 'General' preferences - regardless the currently displayed directory.

You may change the displayed directory to it's parent directory by clicking on the green 'up' icon on the headbar of the display. The current directory may be refreshed by clicking on the orange 'reload' icon.

If there are more files than may displayed on one page, following pages may be accessed by clicking on the 'arrow-right' button on the headbar of the display. The current page number and the amount of pages totally are displayed. By clicking on the 'arrow-left' button you change the currently displayed page to the previous one.

You may close the display by clicking on the 'close' button on the right side of the headbar.
