Netmeeting Incoming Calls Monitor
Brought to you by RiF and DalNet's #AdultNetmeeting

Introduction :

Well, it's our first public release in quite a while, but it's a long needed one (apparently).  A lot of people who sit on IRC in Netmeeting channels are constantly getting calls from people on Netmeeting when they aren't even logged into any ILS servers.  So what conclusions do we draw from this?

  • People are randomly calling or scanning IP addresses for Netmeeting users? (improbable)
  • IRC Users are systematically going through the IP addresses of the users in a channel in order to bug them with calls, or calling for whatever other reason without the recipient's knowledge (BINGO!)

So, here's a little program and mIRC Script combo that'll help you out.  Leave it loaded while you have Netmeeting loaded, if you are using mIRC and the person calling you is in a channel you're in, then you've got 'em!

Setup

Ok, firstly, just unzip the two files "nmmon.exe" and "nmmon.mrc" to your mIRC directory, that'll be the easiest way then you know where everything is.

If you're not sure of your mIRC directory, or you have multiple copies of mIRC installed, load up the copy you're going to use with the program and type...

//echo -s $mircdir

...in the mIRC Status window.  This will give you back the name of the directory into which you should put the two files.

Once those files are in the mIRC directory, all you have to do is type...

/load -rs nmmon.mrc

...and you're done with loading the script.  The only other thing you have to check is the image below.  From the "File" menu, select "Setup", and when the box comes up, fine the page that looks like this image.

Now, you don't have to set the DDE Service Name EXACTLY to "mIRC", but if you use multiple copies of mIRC simultaneously, you will have to pick a name that is unique, as all copies of mIRC will try to use the service name "mIRC" by default.  Just make sure you set the mIRC DDE Service Name accordingly in the setup section of Netmeeting Monitor.  Just make sure the DDE Server is Enabled.

And that's it.  Just leave the program loaded while you're on IRC.  If somebody tries to call you in Netmeeting, keep an eye on your status window, and after a few seconds it should popup (providing your ISP's domain name server is working properly).

Just in case you don't have mIRC loaded, or don't use IRC at all, there is a log window in Netmeeting Monitor which will show you the time and IP address of the caller.
