HTML tutor- Lesson 3

Now let's learn how to create heading. There are six tags associated with heading. In case you're wondering what I mean by heading look above where it says "HTML tutor- Lesson 3". That's a heading. It could be smaller or bigger. Try the following heading tags:

<h1>Hello Dear World!</h1>
<h2>Hello Dear World!</h2>
<h3>Hello Dear World!</h3>
<h4>Hello Dear World!</h4>
<h5>Hello Dear World!</h5>
<h6>Hello Dear World!</h6>
</body>

So to sum it up there are six sizes, ranging from biggest (1) to smallest (6).

Now let's talk about attributes. You can think of an attribute as a property. A property of a <tag>. One example will clarify things:

<h1 align="left">Hello Dear World!</h1>
<h1 align="center">Hello Dear World!</h1>
<h1 align="right">Hello Dear World!</h1>
</body>

NOTE: The attribute align is not a valid part of HTML 4.01. I just wanted you to know but ignore this for now. A lot more on this topic later.

OK. There are a few important points I want to talk about here.

Align is an attribute of the tag <h1>. Notice how the attribute is placed within the tag. The attribute align can have three values- left, center, and right.

The attribute align isn't specific to the tag <h1>. Some attributes are specific but align can go inside many other tags too.

Finally notice the use of quotation marks around left, center, and right. These don't have to be there. But again, they're good practice. What do they do? For one, they make your page easier to read for the browser. HTML is getting stricter all the times. The future version of HTML (present version is 4.01) might not even support attributes that exclude quotation marks.

Don't move on to the next chapter until you get the concepts in this lesson right.

Once again I'd like to emphasize that stick to good coding. In the future lessons you'll learn more and more tags but only use them if and only if you understand how they work.
