Click "New article" to start writing a new article.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Article list" to display a list of posted articles. To delete articles, tick the box and select "Delete" from the pull-down menu under the list.

To edit a posted article, click the title.

Any user can use this menu, but some operations (e.g. deleting, editing) are limited depending on user authorization.

Click "Categories" to adds/edits/deletes categories for your articles.

Refer to Categories for details.

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "File uploading" to display a list of uploaded images. Image files can be uploaded via this screen.

Up to 10 files can be uploaded by using "multi-uploading" function.

Uploaded files can be inserted in your articles when you write/edit your articles/profiles.

Pukeko can upload the following files;

You can give a new name for the image in "Name as " field for easier identification when needed. When the "Name as " field is left blank, "Pukeko" automatically choose the name in the "File" field.

A list shows the uploaded files and their details. Details can be checked by clicking the image.

This menu is usable for any user, however, access to the files uploaded by other users is limited depending on user authority.

"Pukeko" automatically detects whether Image::Magic is available or not.

Click "Affiliate program" to adds/edits your recommendation via Amazon Associate Program. Registered items can be output by using unique tag {amazon_item}.

You can search products on Amazon.com/Amazon.co.jp.

Refer to "Affiliate program" for details.

This menu is usable for any user, however, access to the items recommended by other users is limited depending on user authority.

Click "Links" to adds/edits links on your weblog. Registered links can be output by uisng unique tag {link_list}.

To update your link information, click "Edit" in the table below.

You can add groups to classify your links. Enter the required information in "New group" field and click "Add" to add a new group.

You can regroup your links. Check the box next to the link and select one of the options from the pull-down menu below.

When you delete a group, the links in the group will not be deleted but will be left as ungrouped links.

If you choose "close" for a group, the links in the group will not be shown to readers.

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "User profile" to edit user profile.

Field Note
User name A name to be used to log in your weblog management screen. One byte alphabet characters and numbers, _(underscore), -(hyphen), .(period) can be used for user name.
Full name A name to be used to show the author of the article also in the profile area. No character restriction.
Password A password to be used to log in your weblog management screen. Up to 8 letters of one byte alphabet characters and numbers, _(underscore) can be used for user name. To change your password, you need to enter the same password in "Confirm password". Leave this box blank if you do not change your password.
Mail address Your email address.
Associate ID An ID registered in Amazon associate program. The associate ID can be set to each user respectively.
User list Select whether or not to include you in the user list. Used especially when you use the profile field for other than introducing users.
About yourself Register what you would like to tell about yourself. You can use tags. When "no automatic line breaking" is checked, the contents you entered will be displayed as you have typed.

You can change your "user name" and "password" anytime. After changing your user name, log out from the weblog management screen and log in again.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Comments" to display a list of comments which have been posted to your articles. To change the status of a comment, click the "author". To delete comments, tick the box and click "Delete" button.

To see the details of comments to each author, click author's name.

To see comments to specific article, click the title of the article in the comment list.

This menu is usable for any user, however, deletion and edition of comments to other user will be restricted.

Click "Trackbacks" to display a list of trackbacks which have referred your articles. To change the status of a trackback, check the box and select either "close" or "open" from the pull-down menu. To delete trackbacks, tick the box and select "Delete" from the pull-down menu.

To see the details of trackbacks, click trackback sender's name.

To see trackback sender's article, click the title of the trackback in the trackback list.

To see trackbacks to specific article, click the title of the article in the trackback list.

This menu is usable for any user, however, deletion and edition of trackbacks to other user will be restricted.

Click "Junk filter" to edits criteria to refuse comments.

Comments and trackbacks from the IP addresses you added will not be accepted regardless of the setting of each article.

Refer to Junk filter for details.

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "User registration" to edits/adds weblog users.

"Administrator" can not be deleted.

You can edit profile of each user. You can also change user authority of each user here.

You can change order of listed users by clicking triangle icons in "User list order".

This menu is only usable for the administrator.

Click "Rebuilding" to rebuild your index files, create/delete directories.

You can update your index files (top page, RSS file, and Atom Feed file).

All archive files can be updated according to archive type.

Click "Directory" tab to create/delete directories for saving your articles and uploaded files.

Select one of the directories as a parent directory from the pull-down menu below when you create an new directory. You will not be able to create a new file if there is a file with the identical name or write permission is not set to the directory.

You can delete empty directories only. Select one of the directories from the pull-down menu. Those directories that are considered to be empty are shown in the menu.

Click "Clean up" tab to delete all html files in your directories. The number of files to be deleted is shown in tree view style. You can check a list of files by clicking "Details".

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "Templates" to edit/preview/add your templates.

To edit a template, click the name of the template in the list.

To see details of the template if any, click [*} next to its name. You can see a list of files used in the template.

After editing a template, you can give it a new name when saving it. (You can also leave it unrenamed)

The template you are using now is shown with a flag icon. You can not delete this template.

To preview a template in the list, click a magnifying glass icon.

Click "Setting" tab to select detailed template settings.

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "Editor settings" to change settings for each user such as; default settings of article editor screen, tag entry helper settings, and management screen settings.

You can start using "en.html" by bookmarking the link in this menu.

Any user can use this menu, but "Send Update PING to" field can be edited by the administrator only.

Click "Configuration" for overall settings on your weblog.

Click "Access analyzer" to show access analyzer.

To activate this menu, you need to check this plug-in in "Configuration - Plug-in" menu.

Click "Data transfer" to start importing/exporting data from/to other weblog management tools.

To activate this menu, you need to check this plug-in in "Configuration - Plug-in" menu.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Short message" to edit a short message that is shown only on your top page.

To activate this menu, you need to check this plug-in in "Configuration - Plug-in" menu.

Click "View my weblog" to check how your current weblog looks. New window opens for this function.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Template editor" to edit the template that you are now using on your weblog.

Only the administrator and unrestricted users of your weblog can use this menu.

Click "Status" to show a list of recent articles/comments/trackbacks.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Log out" to log out from your weblog management screen.

Any user can use this menu.

Click "Help" to read the help document. New window opens for this function.

Article posting/management

Article posting

Click "New article" to start writing an article.

You can upload files and add categories in this screen although these functions are available in other menu too.

A screen you will see when "Edit my list" is clicked looks slightly different from the one for writing new article. Basic functions are provided in both screens.

Article editor screen

Field Note
Title Enter a title of your article. You can not use HTML elements in this field.
Category Select a category from a pull-down list. To add a new category for the article, fill in "Add" field. If you check the box next to "as sub-category", you can add a sub-category to the selected category. The selected category will be a main category of the article and the article will be affected by the settings of its template and archive. Click "Related categories" to see a form to set related categories. You can assign multiple categories to one article. Choose categories in the left box and click >> button to add related categories. Choose categories in the right box and click << button to delete related categories.
Body Enter a body of the article. You can use HTML elements for the article body. Make sure to close each HTML element in the body with the end tag. You can use tag entry helper buttons to help entering HTML elements depending on the browser you use.
More Enter the sequel of the article. "Sequel" will not be displayed on the top page, but will be displayed on the individual page for the article. You can use HTML elements for the body. Make sure to close each HTML element in the body with the end tag. You can use tag entry helper buttons to help entering HTML elements depending on the browser you use.
Ezy file inserter Pull-down list of uploaded files is provided for both "Body" and "Sequel" fields. Depending on the browser you use, you can select files which you would like to insert in your article. Click "New..." button if you would like to add new files to the list. A form to upload new files will be shown.
Trackback Add URLs to the list if you would like to send the trackback pings from the article. You can use "Auto Detection" button to find URLs from the link in your article. The trackback pings will be sent to the URLs that are set for the selected category as well as the URLs you added here.
Summary Summarize your article if needed. If there is no text in this field, "Pukeko" automatically excerpts texts from your article body. You cannot use HTML elements in this field.
Keyword Write keywords for the article. No specific format for this field. You cannot use HTML elements in this field.
Save as You can give a file name only when you select "Individual" for HTML file generation (Configuration - Basic settings). File name will be automatically given according to the article ID if you leave this field blank. The file will be replaced with the existing one if you give a file the identical name as the existing one. Make sure if you already have a file with the identical name. You can use English one byte characters and "_" (underscore). Extension will be automatically given (default extension is .html).
Author Administrator can change author of the article. Select one of users who you would like to assign as an author of the article.
Time zone Choose your time zone. The chosen time zone will be saved respectively for each article. The article that is written during daylight saving period will be shown with the time stamp in your chosen time zone regardless of "Configuration" settings.
Format Choose whether line breaks shall be replaced by <br /> tags or not. Enabled text format will be added if text format plug-in is used.
Comment From the pull-down menu, you can select if you would like to show all the comments without your confirmation, refuse any comments, or confirm all the comments before being viewed by readers.
Trackback From the pull-down menu, you can select if you would like to show all the trackbacks without your confirmation, refuse any trackbacks, or confirm all the trackbacks before being viewed by readers.
Date and time Set the posted date and time for the article. Click "Present time" button to choose the current date and time.
Update PING When the article is posted and saved, "Pukeko" sends update pings to the checked ping servers which are set in editor settings.
Save as draft Save your article as draft. Your article can not be viewed by reader.
Save and post Post and save your article. Your article can be viewed by reader.

Article list

A list of saved articles is shown.

To start editing an article, click its title.

To delete articles, check the box, select "Delete" from the pull-down menu under the list, and click "Submit" button. You have to rebuild your weblog to reflect this change.

You can change the number/order of the articles in the list by selecting one of the options from the pull-down menu under the list. You can also filter your articles by selecting one of the options from the pull-down menu under the list.

Article updating

A screen you will see when "Article list" is clicked looks slightly different from the one for writing new article.

Click "View my weblog" to check how your current weblog looks. New window opens for this function. Both open articles and closed articles can be checked.

A list of comments and trackbacks to the article is shown at the bottom of the screen. You can delete the comments and trackback from the list.

Trackback URLs are shown in trackback field if trackback PING has already been sent.

Categories

About categories

Each article can be categorized.

You can view articles on a category basis, assign a specific template to each category, and also assign a specific file to save articles of each category.

Categories can be added in an article editor screen. Details can be set in "Edit my category" menu.

A list of your categories is shown by clicking "Edit my category".

Total number of articles in each category is shown in the list and you can have a look at a list of articles by clicking the number. You can change order of listed users by clicking triangle icons.

When you change the name of certain category, the name of the category for the categorized articles will change accordingly. When you delete certain category, articles in the category will remain unchanged.

You can set trackback URL for each category. Trackback Ping will be sent out to the preset URL for the category when you post your article.

Category layering

Your categories can be hierarchically layered.

They can be viewed by clicking "Tree index".

If a new sub-category is added to a parent category, a template, a file, and settings of the parent category will be used by default.

If you change a parent category of Category A, sub-categories of Category A will follow accordingly. That is, sub-categories of Category A will always be the sub-categories of Category A even though a parent category of Category A changes.

In a tree index mode, names of the files will be shown if you select "Individual" for HTML file generation.

Detailed settings

Detailed settings are shown by clicking "Details" in the category list.

You can select a template for the category. This selected template will be prioritized over the archive page template.

This template will also be used for articles in the category when the article is displayed individually. (If "HTML template for individual entry" is set for the template, it will be prioritized over the category template.)

If "Individual" is selected for HTML file generation (Configuration - Basic settings), you can assign a file to save articles in the category.

Select one of the available directories (in base directory or log directory) from the pull-down menu.

If "Generate index page of category" is selected, an "index.html" file will be generated in the directory you selected. As an existing category index file will not be checked if any, one "index.html" file only will be generated for categories that are saved in the same directory.

Click "Details" in the category list to see a list of its sub-categories.

Comments/trackbacks

About comments/trackbacks

The visitors of your weblog can post comments to your articles. You can select whether you would like to show all the comments without your confirmation, refuse any comments, or confirm all the comments before being viewed by readers.

Trackback is a notice that your article has been referred in trackback sender's article.

You can select whether you would like to show all the trackbacks without your confirmation, refuse any trackbacks, or confirm all the trackbacks before being viewed by readers.

"Pukeko" shows a list of comments by clicking "Comments" menu and a list of trackbacks by clicking "Trackbacks" menu.

You can see each comment with its details by clicking "Author" in the comment list and each trackback with its details by clicking "Ping sender" in the trackback list.

You can change the number/order of the comments/trackbacks in the list by selecting one of the options from the pull-down menu under the list. You can also filter your comments/trackbacks by selecting one of the options from the pull-down menu under the list.

Status of comments/trackbacks

"Closed" comments/trackbacks will not be viewed by your readers until you change their status to "Open".

If you select "Confirm to open" for some comments/trackbacks in your article editor screen, their status will be "Closed" when received.

When you use SPAM block function, whatever comments that your SPAM criteria meet will be automatically "Closed" regardless of the setting of the article.

On "Status" screen, you can check the number of comments/trackbacks that need to be confirmed to open.

You can change the status for each comment and trackback by checking the box and selecting "Open" or "Close"

from the pull-down menu under the list.

The comments and trackbacks which is set as "Confirm to open" are not shown on your weblog until you change its status to "Open".

Junk filter

You can refuse comments and trackbacks from specific IP address.

"IP address" is the identification number between "0.0.0.0" and "255.255.255.255" which is given respectively to all computers connected to the Internet.

If you set "127.0.0" IP address field in Unwelcome visitors menu, you can refuse comments and trackbacks from IP addresses between "127.0.0.0" and "127.0.0.255".

You can refuse unwelcome comments such as SPAM by setting your criteria. All the comments that meet these criteria will be saved under the status "Confirm to open" regardless of settings of the article.

You can select one of the options from the pull-down menu.

Add words in "Banned words" field to refuse unwelcome comments. Enter name=names to refuse, mail=mail addresses to refuse, url=website addresses to refuse, body=words in comment body to refuse, with line breakings between each settings.

Affiliate program

Amazon associate program

Amazon Associate Program is an online affiliate program provided by Amazon.com. You can join it free of charge.

You can use this program easily by clicking "Affiliate program" menu. If someone buys an item that you introduce in your weblog using amazon.com associate ID, amazon.com will pay you referral fee.

Get your Associate ID from amazon.com and set your ID in "Edit profile" menu. Refer Join Associates for details of Amazon Associate Program.

You can use "Affiliate program" menu without Amazon associate ID if you do not prefer to be paid. You can also use this menu as an organizer of your favorite items.

"Pukeko" is NOT commercially involved in Amazon Associate Program.

Search items

If you select "Select items from Amazon.com" menu, a search form will be shown.

Use this form to search items on amazon.com. You can select a genre from the pull-down menu.

If you have already known ASIN which is given to each item on amazon.com, you can select "ASIN/ISBN" from the pull-down menu and enter ASIN number in keyword field.

Matched item will be searched by clicking "Search in amazon.com" It may take a while until the result is diplayed.

Add to my list

Add the selected items to your list by clicking "Add" button beside each item.

You can also enter your comment on the item in the text form below.

No multiple registrations are available. Register items one by one.

Edit my list

You can show your list of registered items by using unique tags.

To delete the registered item from your list, check a box and select "Delete" from the pull-down menu below.

Your comments can be edited anytime. To update multiple comments at the same time, edit comments respectively and click Update comment button.

If you would like to write an article related to the registered item, check the item and select "In my new article, refer" from the pull-down menu below.

You can change order of listed items by clicking triangle icons.
