Tips for a Simple Install

Installing web applications is inherently more challenging that installing normal windows software.  Your installation experience will vary depending on the following:

  • The install server / environment
  • Your experience with the required technologies
  • The configuration choices you make
  • The care you take in following the instructions in the Installation and Setup guide

While this Installation and Setup Guide covers a wide range of conditions and configuration choices, you can greatly simplify the installation process if you adhere to the following guidelines.

To assure the simplest install process we recommend the following:

  • Install on Windows 2003, not Windows 2000 or XP
  • Install as a new Website, not a Virtual Directory under an existing Website
  • Use Forms Authentication, not Windows Integrated Authentication
  • Use Active Directory, not ADAM

Windows Integrated Authentication, ADAM, Windows 2000/XP, and installing as a Virtual Directory under an existing Website are all supported, however these conditions may complicate the install process and require additional skills and time.

Under the recommended conditions above, rDirectory will install in less than 10 minutes and require no advanced skills.

Quick Start Install

1)     Follow the Simple Install Tips above and install on a Windows 2003 Server that is a member of the Active Directory Forest to be searched.

2)     Run the Setup-rDirectory Community.msi Installer and accept all defaults to Install as rDirectory as the Default Website on that server

3)     The Site Manager will run after Installation is complete, accept all defaults to install using Forms Authentication

4)     The rDirectory site will be launched.  At the logon screen, logon with your normal windows logon name and password.

Upgrade

If you would like to customize the rDirectory website, use data-integrity controls to assure consistent data entry, add photos, expand the Self-Service capabilities, use Roles to provide custom views or delegate edit rights, enable Help Desk Password Reset or use Query Based Email, then be sure to check our other commercial editions at:
