Welcome to the MentorMate(tm) U.S. History for iQpakk(tm) How to Install Readme!
=================================================================================
If you would like to purchase this product, visit http://www.mentormate.com, then
click 'Store' on the upperleft side of the main page. If you just
purchased this MentorMate iQcourse(tm), thank you very much!

Until you REGISTER your product with MentorMate, it will be in demo mode. It will
only allow you to access the first two sections of U.S. History, then expire
after 30 days.

The archive file you downloaded contains five separate files:

1) iQpakk.prc - also known as the iQpakk Learning Engine
2) USHistoryiQcourse.pdb - the U.S. History course in a Palm database file (.pdb)
3) ReadMe.txt - this installation guide
4) EULA.txt - End-User License Agreement
5) News.txt - News about latest release (bugs/workarounds)

To begin using the U.S. History Course, install iQpakk.prc and
USHistoryiQcourse.pdb onto your PalmOS handheld computer via a standard HotSync
operation between your handheld and your desktop/laptop computer. Depending on
the speed and memory of your desktop/laptop and handheld, this may take from
2 to 20 minutes.

A list of minimum requirements for desktop/laptop and Palm hardware and software
is listed at the end of this document.

UNLOCK CODE:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PALM OS HANDHELD AND DESKTOP/LAPTOP COMPUTERS:

HANDHELD HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Any Palm OS Handheld with at least 2.5 Megabytes of memory. Older handhelds
using a black and white (1-bit) screen will work, but image quality will be poor.
A grayscale (4 bit) screen is the minimum quality recommended. Use a HotSync
cradle or cable with either a serial or USB connection for all file syncronization
between your handheld and desktop/laptop. File synchronization can be tried via
the infrared port (IR) on your handheld and an IR port on your desktop/laptop
computer (if it has one). However, IR connections are generally not as reliable
as those via cradles or cables, so this is not recommended for file syncronization.
You can beam a course from one handheld to another, however, it will always result
in the received copy being an unregistered version that will expire in 30 days.

HANDHELD SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: We have tested iQpakk and USHistory on devices
running Palm OS 3.5 up to 5.0. Palm OS 3.5 is the minimum level PALM OS we support.

MINIMUM DESKTOP/LAPTOP SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
THE MINIMUM WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM that MentorMate will officially support is
either Win98 SE or later. We believe our product will run on Win95 and higher,
but we will not be testing our product on Win95, NT or ME. RECOMMENDED WINDOWS OS:
Windows 98 SE, 2000 Service pack 2, or XP Home or Pro
MINIMUM APPLE MACINTOSH OPERATING SYSTEM that MentorMate will officially
support is 8.5. RECOMMENDED MAC OS: 9.2.2 or 10.1 or higher
PALM DESKTOP and HOTSYNC MANAGER - The Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager applications
must be installed on your desktop/laptop computer before you can install any
MentorMate products on your handheld. If these two applications are not installed,
follow the directions in the owners manual for your Palm OS device to install
them. Ensure the HotSync Manager is running on your Desktop/Laptop before trying
to perform a Hotsync operation (more detail on Hotsync is in last section below).

DESKTOP/LAPTOP HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS: RAM, disc space and processor minimums
vary by OS:

Win98 SE RAM 16 MB minimum - 24 MB or more recommended; Processor 486 66
MHz minimum, Pentium recommended; 225 MB available disk space; VGA or higher
resolution (16 or 24 bit color SVGA recommended); 28.8 KB modem or higher

Win2000 32 MB minimum, 64MB or more recommended; Processor 133MHz or higher
Pentium-compatible CPU; 650 MB of available disk space; 256 color VGA minimum
video adapter and monitor, VGA or higher resolution (16 or 24 bit color SVGA
recommended); 28.8 KB modem or higher

WinXP Home and Professional 64 MB minimum, 128 MB recommended; Processor
233 MHz minimum, 300 MHz recommended, Intel Pentium/Celeron family or AMD
K6/Athlon/Duron family or compatible processor; 1.5 GB of available disk space;
SVGA or higher resolution video adapter and monitor; 28.8 KB modem or higher

Macintosh - Apple Macintosh computers should be running a minimum of OS 8.5
(9.x and 10.x are fine), 32 MB minimum RAM, and must support either a serial or
USB connection, have the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager installed, and a sync
cradle attached.

A HotSync operation is a two-way synchronization of records between your
handheld and your computer. Changes that you make on your handheld or your
computer are updated on both platforms after a HotSync operation. A HotSync
operation backs up all your data and only synchronizes the changed portions of
data, reducing the time it takes to complete a HotSync operation. You can also
install applications and data from your computer to your handheld or to a Palm
OS compatible expansion card during a HotSync operation.

To perform a HotSync operation, HotSync Manager must be running. HotSync Manager
is an independent application that oversees the HotSync operation. HotSync
Manager monitors your computer's serial port, USB port, IR (infrared) port,
and/or modem, and listens for a HotSync command from your handheld.
Note: The Windows 95 USB driver is not compatible with HotSync Manager.
A HotSync operation can be performed even when the Desktop application is not
running.

You can perform a HotSync operation through five different types of connections:

Local Cradle/Cable - Uses a cradle or cable which connects to a USB or serial
port on your computer. Use a local cradle/cable HotSync operation when you are
sitting at your computer. You can use a local cradle/cable for the first HotSync
operation.
InfraRed - Uses infrared communication between the IR port on your handheld and
an IR device or port on your computer. You can use infrared communication for the
first HotSync operation.
Direct Network - Uses a cradle/cable connected to a USB or serial port or
infrared communication on any computer that has network HotSync Manager installed
on your local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN). Use a direct
network HotSync operation when you are sitting at another computer that has
network HotSync Manager installed.
Dial-In Network - Uses a modem connected to your handheld to dial into a server
on your network. Use dial-in network HotSync operation if you are out of the
office and have dial-in permission.
Modem - Uses two modems: one connected to your handheld, the other to your
computer. Use a modem HotSync operation to synchronize data when you want to
dial directly into your computer from a remote location.
